First Things First, The Lift-Off
“The college process is fueled by decision, action, and empowerment.”
In his book- 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey notes that for the Apollo 11 Lunar Mission, more energy was consumed in the first two miles of lift-off than over the next 500,000 miles of orbit. His point is very clear to me.
When it comes to big projects, getting started is the hardest part. For my role with families, it is the time in the process that requires the most energy of me and understanding of the family. In the beginning, I have to change the way you look at college. I will reverse the power-position away from the colleges and put it into your hands.
We accomplish this by providing you with knowledge and a strategic plan. In doing so, you will learn precisely how the college business model works in supporting their interests, not yours.
"Fortune favors the prepared mind."- Louis Pasteur
Stephen Covey’s book has become engrained in our program. Why? Because we like to be effective! This process rewards effectiveness.
Covey’s Habit # 3 of Highly Effective People, Put First Things First is exactly the methodology that we follow. In the college process, the very first step is to have a college list that matches the student’s or athlete’s qualifications and interests along with the parent’s interests and needs.
Having a college list creates the foundation from which everything else in the college search process happens proactively (which happens to be Covey’s Habit # 1- Be Proactive). Not having a college list leaves you to guesswork, while leaving your child’s college to random chance. And that’s not the platform for success.
Why don’t more people have a college list? One, because they don’t know the college landscape. People hire me because I know the colleges and the college perspective while holding the inner secrets to getting college right and saving college costs.
We have a custom college timeline waiting for you. Our customized college timeline indicates all the key activities and dates of the college process specific to your child’s interests and goals. You’ll know what to do and when to do it…it’s your College GPS.
You gain complete access to our Parent Intelligence Resource Center for enhancing your knowledge. This includes our College-Educational Training Series, an ongoing training series of all topics related to college delivered in a conference call setting, live and interactive.
This puts you in the driver’s seat with knowledge, confidence, a strategic plan, and owning the power-position.
Our Lift-Off program is typically completed in one month, maybe longer if circumstances dictate. Our College-Educational Training Series is ongoing for the entire process.
When the time is right, we move into the Admission, Application, Scholarship, Cost Negotiation, and Decision phase of the college process, typically around July 1 prior to Senior year. Our goal is to have applications submitted by Labor Day, win acceptances to 6-8 colleges, earn the maximum scholarship potential at each college, and make the right college decision in the spring.
In working together you will-
Save time and money by having a strategic plan for targeting the right colleges
Get ahead in the game by visiting the right colleges early and building value
Eliminate frustration and family conflict by being on top of your game
Feel much-needed relief in gaining knowledge and a sense of confidence
This is a targeted, concentrated, and comprehensive program we offer to families who want to be sure they are doing things right.
